THE EXTRA MILE
"This documentary is beautiful: there is such a great need to bring to light the importance of relationship and communication in the world of healthcare, through the language of the heart."
CARE RELATIONSHIP
Despite enormous technological and scientific progress, medicine is facing increasing litigation, healthcare professional burnout, and excessive over-specialization and bureaucratization..
These factors undermine an essential ingredient in the healing process: the Care Relationship.
BEYOND THE ORGAN, THE PERSON
The Extra Mile, directed by Davide Basso, was born from the need to bring the relational and communicative aspects of care back to the center.
The author, Nicole Smith, conceived this awareness project after spending five months in a hospital bed following a serious road accident at the age of 26.
That direct experience revealed that the relationship is a fundamental ingredient, yet it is often not "cared for" as it should be.
THE VOICES:
EXPERTS, CAREGIVERS AND PATIENTS
We have intentionally gathered voices from different perspectives to analyze the delicate, complex, and humanly challenging relationship of care: from frontline healthcare professionals (medical directors, surgeons, residents) to world-renowned academic figures , down to the irreplaceable perspectives of patients and their families.
